Curious about what daily food at a German Mensa looks like? Here’s your chance to find out!
When you study at a German university, you have the opportunity to eat at the Mensa — the university cafeteria. Today, I want to share what I usually eat there.
To begin with, some universities, such as Heidelberg University, have several Mensas in different locations. Students can choose where to eat depending on their preferences! Each Mensa offers different types of food, like buffets or pasta bars.
However, my university has only one Mensa. On the one hand, I sometimes wish I had the choice to pick between different Mensas, like at Heidelberg University. But on the other hand, I am quite satisfied with the Mensa at my university because:
- Every day, they serve different dishes. But Pasta is always available.
- The food is healthy and delicious.
- The price is affordable — usually between 2 to 4 Euros.
- The meals are well-balanced and nutritious.
- It saves me time.
- The Mensa is open from 11 AM to 7 PM.
- I enjoy trying traditional German dishes there.
If you are considering studying in Germany and want to try the food at a Mensa, you can eat there even as a guest (Gäste-Preis). It’s a great experience to have!
