Bauhäusle

Overview

The Bauhäusle is regarded as one of the most attractive and, at the same time, most affordable accommodation options for students in Stuttgart. It originated from a student project in the 1980s. Under the guidance of Professors Peter Sulzer and Peter Hübner, around 250 first-year students built a small residential complex on campus, surrounded by greenery. Thirty students now live there. The building is constructed mainly from wood and recycled building materials. Each room has its own unique character thanks to its different layouts, windows and floors. The fittings are basic, and the rooms are unfurnished. There are communal kitchens and showers. Maintenance and garden upkeep are carried out by the residents themselves. Allocation of accommodation is decided following a selection interview.

The maximum tenancy is limited to 36 months. Periods at other state-sponsored homes of residence in Stuttgart, Ludwigsburg, Esslingen and Göppingen count as well for the maximum tenancy.
